Exploration

In Visual Arts this term, Exploration students will be extending their learning of community. In particular, the family home will be the main focus of our artworks this term. Students will be building vocabulary around the features and materials of homes in our community and how they support our safety and shelter. Exploration students will be exploring the art form of sculpture and will be creating a 3D model of a home. Many other techniques will be explored through this process such as painting, colouring, cutting with accuracy and collage. The village created by all the students will be available for students to use which will allow them to play and extend their vocabulary of community.

Discovery

In Visual Arts this term, Discovery students will be extending their learning of narratives/fairy tales in literacy. Students will be exploring the art form of collage this term. Throughout their engagement with collage, students will build their skills in planning an image design, cutting with accuracy, pasting and creating a balanced composition. Students will build vocabulary on the topic of fairy tales and build their language on settings, characters, problems and solutions by viewing and engaging with a range of fairy tale inspired artwork. Students will create a fairy tale collage which will inspire them when composing a narrative in Writing time.

Curiosity

In Visual Arts this term, Curiosity students will be extending their literacy learning of Aboriginal culture and dreamtime stories. Throughout the term, students will be building their vocabulary of Australian animals and words to describe our Australian landscape. Students will be creating collages that include images of our natural Australian landscape and native flora and fauna. Throughout the process of collage making, students will be building their skills on creating balanced compositions that consider the artistic elements of principles of colour, texture, movement and emphasis. These collages will be created for an aesthetically pleasing artwork to view, as well as an inspiration for composing a narrative in Writing time.

Challenge

In Visual Arts this term. Challenge students will be extending their learning of Australian history and immigration. Students will be introduced to the topic of artistic appropriation and how this can be achieved through the art form of collage. Students will view historical Australian artworks and consider how this artwork was perceived during this time in history; considering culture, gender, time and place implications. Challenge students will explore how Australia has changed and grown through immigration and reflect on how these artworks could be altered for today. Students will appropriate these artworks using collage to transform them into an artwork that reflects Australia in the present time.
