Challenge Term Three 2023 Learning Overview
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Term Three 2023. We hope you all have had a relaxing break from school.
Student wellbeing is important and impacts their learning at school. To ensure that students are able to concentrate and learn well at school, it is important to provide them with enough food for their day. Please ensure to provide students with enough healthy food for both lunch and recess, a water bottle and a fruit snack for the day. We appreciate and thank you in advance for your support.
Below is an outline of the curriculum that we will be covering this term.
Investigations
Our Investigations topic for this term will be about how current technologies impact and contribute to a sustainable future. The students will be learning to generate deep open questions about a sustainability issue using a Question Quadrant. They will then be supported to research, design, create, refine and evaluate a prototype with the aim of solving a technological and sustainability problem.
English
During the term in Reading, students will continue their work in reading groups. Their main focus will be immersing themselves in diverse text types to enhance their comprehension and decoding skills, while also exploring the distinctive writing styles of various authors. By gaining insights into the craft of these authors, the students will apply their learnings to improve their own writing pieces.
For Writing this term, we will be focusing on using the Bump It Up Wall to improve students’ writing craft. The students will use the visible ‘I can’ statements to identify specific areas to make changes to their writing.
Numeracy
For Numeracy this term, the students will be developing their understanding on the following topics: measuring time, solving multiplication and division problems using a variety of written and mental strategies, following directions to locations and interpreting statistics and graphs.
Auslan
Students will continue communicate through Auslan authentically in Term Three. They discovered how to identify open and closed questions by looking at the signer’s eyebrows. Students learned how to give and follow instructions, ask questions about the school day and ‘Can I?’ questions.
Religion
For Term Three, the students will be continuing to learn about saints of the Church in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation on August 31. They will be investigating how saints have lived their lives as role models of the Church. Upon selecting a saint, they will be reflecting on how the saint can inspire and guide them to live as good people.
Camp
We are very excited to be going to camp in Week Two. We will be going to Lady Northcote Recreation Camp on July 17-19. Our Challenge camp is part of the student’s health and physical education program, focusing on developing the student’s independence and resilience through a series of fun outdoor activities.
