Dear Parents & Guardians

REMEMBRANCE DAY

It seems pertinent that this week we will celebrate Remembrance Day which this year falls this Saturday. Given everything that is going on in the world at the present time, the celebration of Remembrance I think is really a relevant time to reflect on the meaning of the Remembrance Day.

Obviously, Remembrance Day is an opportunity to remember and honour those who sacrificed so much to allow us to enjoy the freedom from which we benefit today. It is also a chance I think, to reflect on the futility of conflict and the misery it causes, no matter what side people are on, and especially to the children who become the innocent victims. It is important that as a Catholic school, one founded on the values of respect, compassion and justice, that we teach our children the importance of peace, of kindness and compassion for others. When looking through YouTube recently (more motorcycle videos!), I came across a beautiful song called, ‘No Mans Land’, written by Scottish Australian, Eric Bogle. I think it is well worth a view (No Man’s Land). It certainly gave me pause.

2024 SACRAMENT INFORMATION EVENING

A reminder for parents of students currently in Year One, Two or Four. All parents of baptised Catholic students wishing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation in 2024, must attend the sacramental information evening on November 15 at St Anthony’s Parish at 6pm. If your child has not yet received a 2024 Sacrament enrolment form, please contact Jay Russell as soon as possible: jamien.russell@slweirviews.catholic.edu.au.

2024 ENROLMENT INFORMATION NIGHT

On Monday night (November 13) we have our 2024 Parent Enrolment Information Night at 6.00pm. This is a required school event for all parents and guardians who have children starting at St Lawrence of Brindisi in 2024 from all grades from Prep to Grade 6. If this applies to you, it is important you attend. If you know any parents or guardians whose children are starting next year, please remind them to come along.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS

Please remember that there is a further student-free closure day next week on Friday, November 17. There is no school on this day. The last day of the school year for students is Friday, December 15.

SPECIAL PARISH EVENT

There is a special event in our parish of St Anthony of Padua on Saturday, November 18. Archbishop Peter Comensoli will be at the parish to officially install Fr Alex, as the new parish priest of our parish. It would be wonderful to see some of our families there to support Fr Alex as he has already had a big impact on our school community. The parish has arranged a reception after mass at 5.00pm. If you are interested in attending, you need to add your name to the sheet in the church foyer so the parish can organise numbers.

God bless,

Bill Hill.
