News & Events

Dear Families,

This has been a momentous week in the life of the Church. The confirmation of Cardinal Robert Provost as Pope Leo XIV and the first US pope (though he has spent the last twenty years living in Peru), is a significant milestone in the life of the church. We pray for Pope Leo as he takes on the enormous task of leading our church in an unpredictable and precarious world; I can only pray that he continues the work of Pope Francis in reaching out to those on the margins and ensuring that our is a church that is welcoming of others and acts in a spirit of dialogue, collaboration and mutual respect with those of other faiths.

AUSTRALIA’S BEST TEACHER CAMPAIGN

Our school is blessed to have lots of amazing teachers who work really hard to nurture your children and develop their learning each and every day. One of the joys of my job is getting to walk around the school during the day and observe just how skilled some of these teachers are in their work.

Our governing authority, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), is partnering with News Corp to promote the Australia’s Best Teacher campaign.

The campaign will feature outstanding teachers across MACS schools to recognise the teachers who inspire our students to flourish. The campaign begins on 28 May and will be promoted in the Herald Sun, Sunday Herald Sun, Geelong Advertiser and V-Weekend. The top 50 teachers will be announced on 21 June.

We need your support by encouraging your school community to nominate the teachers who inspire them. It would be wonderful if our community could nominate some of our amazing teachers, as this would be a fitting recognition of their dedication to our school and to supporting your children in their educational journey.

Parents and guardians can use the link to nominate one of our amazing teachers: https://www.australiasbestteacher.com.au/

SCHOOL CROSSING

We have noticed that a number of our families are crossing Waterway Boulevard on their way to and from school, but not using the school crossing provided. This is something we would like to discourage and are asking parents and guardians not to do. It does not reinforce safe crossing behaviours for our children, and given the busyness of Waterway Boulevard, I am concerned that a child or parent could get hurt crossing the road because a car has not been able to stop in time.

I am particularly concerned given there are an increasing number of trucks and heavy vehicles using Waterway Boulevard due to the construction of our new Early Learning Centre and the new housing development that has started opposite to school. This presents an increased risk to our families, so we need to encourage all our families and children to use the school crossing that has been provided (not to mention that it was really expensive and there was not much point spending this money if it isn’t used!)

CURIOSITY GRADE FOUR UPDATE

On Friday 9th May, Curiosity Year 4 students attended MSO Wizardry School, a Magical performance by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.  We travelled to the beautiful Hamer Hall in Melbourne’s CBD. The MSO performed three pieces, each with a magical theme. The first was Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It was a fantastic start to an amazing performance and we got our first experience hearing the orchestra play. The second piece was Dance Macabre by, Camille Saint Saëns. It was inspired by a poem and we heard the instruments representing the skeletons’ bone rattling while they danced to the violin and the rooster calling. The last piece was The Firebird suite by Igor Stravinsky. Dr Richard Vaudrey, a cello player from the MSO, took us through the story of Firebird and how each of the instruments in the orchestra help to tell the story. Everyone had a wonderful time and a memorable experience.
“It sounded exactly the same as the Harry Potter music.” Thashveen
“It was like a big burst of magic that I could listen to and see!” Ally
“It was so interesting when the wizard turned into a real dad. It was so cool!” Guntas
